Motor Vehicle Services sends a second FINAL extended warranty notice

Yep, they’re baaaaak. A year ago, Motor Vehicle Services sent an alleged ‘final’ notice, informing me that the extended warranty on my Ford Escape was in danger of expiring. Horrors!  Well, I’d known that this would not be last I’d ever hear from them, for they have many ‘final’ notices just waiting to be mailed. However, there are more pieces to this puzzle morphing into shape…and it’s becoming curiouser and curiouser (to borrow a line from Alice In Wonderland). This company (or, perhaps, the marketing company they’ve hired to force these bogus warranties on people) has toll-free phone numbers to spare. The phone number on this particular notice is 866-226-8319. A quick search shows they’ve been bugging the crap out of people with this number for a few years.

And now, we have a face to put on Motor Vehicle Services: their CEO, one Gregory Nelson. Mr. Nelson even has a Twitter account. Although most of the tweets appear to be spam — the kind in league with the porn spammers you’re constantly having to block. The background graphic touts a FREE book, which you can receive via their official website: “The 7 Great Lies About Auto Warranties — What you really need to know before you purchase an empty promise worth less than the paper it’s printed on. Get your FREE copy at MotorVehicleServices.com.” Anyone feel the irony here? Pot. Kettle. Black.

So, here’s the document in question (made to look a bit more ‘official’ because the other version just wasn’t scary enough):

It’s just so much junk mail deja vu, isn’t it?

So, just who is Gregory Nelson after all? His LinkedIn page is rather sparse, for one thing. But a little more digging reveals a rather unsavory affiliation with someone named Frank Amos, purportedly accused of committing wire fraud in two states, and who may or may not still be on the lam. Then there’s the question of the Motor Vehicle Services website itself. Who owns it and who runs it? The company (which is not accredited by the BBB) is located in West Plains, Missouri. Yet, when I performed a WHOIS look-up, this what I found:

Who the heck is Marian Nelson of Goodyear, Arizona? She has the same surname as good ole Gregory…so is she wife, sister, mother, or cousin to the CEO of Motor Vehicle Services, and why is she the registrant of the domain name? Apparently, she’s a real estate agent (here’s her LinkedIn page) and has put her Arizona home up for sale in February 2013 (unless it’s already sold by now):

Oh, and here’s something really funny: this is what you get when you go to the website’s Privacy Policy: a “404 Page Not Found” error page. Somehow, that’s just so fitting.

Caveat emptor, people.

Who sold my name, address and vehicle info to them and how do I get off their mailing list? They won’t stop bothering me.

Sorry, but the state DMV provides this information to these scumbags. Unfortunately, there’s no one way to stop the mailers from coming. You’ll have to spend your time reporting this crap to various government agencies. See this resource: http://www.scammersuncovered.com/report-scams-and-spam/.

Ok . I’m shame to say it .but I’m one of the victims . I actually pay them 395 dollars and literal 5 minutes after I did I call back and tell them I want to cancel and I need my money back . He said he will refund it and it will appear in my account back in about 3 days .
I guess I won’t see that money back right??
I know I was stupid .please no need to hear it . I feel horrible !
This is my learning experience .I’m not even from this country and I’m not use to this type of staff .
Any information about it . Thanks

Well, if you don’t see that your money has been refunded in the “promised” three days, you should contact the Bureau of Consumer Affairs in your state. You can find links here: http://www.scammersuncovered.com/report-scams-and-spam/. Also, if you still have the original mailer that was sent to you by these scumbags, you should also report them to the USPS.

I hope you receive your refund, but I hate to tell you that you may have to fight for it. Good luck!
